Lethal Weapon 5 Still In The Works

When reports surfaced this week that writer-director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) had signed on to direct Universal's Cold Warrior, it threw Lethal Weapon fans into a tizzy because they feared another installment of the beloved franchise would never come to pass. Truth is, the delay has nothing to do with Black, who wrote the first Lethal script and has penned a long treatment for a fifth iteration. (In fact, he plans to take over the director's reins from Richard Donner.) Lethal number 5 still hinges on Mel Gibson, who's currenlty filming Edge of Darkness in Boston. Longtime Lethal producer Joel Silver has been trying to nail down approval from Gibson about Black's approach, which includes introducing a pair of young NYPD cops.

"Lethal Weapon 5" Waiting On Gibson?
You'd think after "The Passion of the Christ" Mel Gibson wouldn't be making movies like these anymore. In fact I recall him saying something along those lines when it first came out. Ah well. Despite all the flack he's received from the media I still like the guy. (I won't get in to things he has or has not said, but I will say I still like him-- If even just for his talent in both acting and directing.)
"Lethal Weapon 5" is on the plate and director Shane Black and Joel Silver are waiting on Gibson to okay the script Black has come up with.
The story sounds like a passing of the torch film with new NYPD officers coming in to play. All guesses point to Gibson's and Danny Glover's characters training the new kids.
Don't know what to think of this currently....

Lethal Weapon 2 [Blu-ray] was an incredible movie! Both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were amazing! Maybe thats what makes the movie so good.The great cast includes Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Joe Pesci, Joss Ackland, Derrick O'Connor. The movie moves on like a dream and end leaving you wanting for more.

The series formula started to kick in with this immediate sequel to Lethal Weapon, but that doesn't necessarily make it a weak movie. Joe Pesci joins the fold, Richard Donner directs again, and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as LAPD partners, their relationship smoother now that Gibson's character has recovered from his maddening grief over his wife's death. Midnight Madness - Lethal Weapon 2 Edition
The first two Lethal Weapon movies are among my favorites of all time, the mix of action and humor enhanced by Richard Donner's splashy direction are film making benchmarks to me. Lethal Weapon 2 had more jokes so I tended to like it a little more than the first film. The combo of Mel Gibson's tortured yet amused killing machine cop and Danny Glover's retiring old school family man cop had great chemistry, enough to carry them through two more sequels. I'll have to expand on this more some other time, but for now I just want to give a shout out to the Lethal Weapon movies, back when L.A. cops were considered cool, Mel Gibson was fun instead of demeaning and action was done with actual stunt people instead of CGI. Am I getting too...

Lethal Weapon 5 Rumored
Recent reports claim the Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are keen on reprising their roles for Lethal Weapon 5. Why not? Genius even...
Screenwriter Shane Black, the creator and original writer of Lethal Weapon and The Monster Squad, has supposedly handed in a detailed treatment to Joel Sivler. This has been reported by TrackingB.com.
The story reportedly revolves around the impending retirement of Martin Riggs (Gibson), who enlists his retired partner Roger Murtaugh (Glover) to help him crack one last case.
Come on...one last case. You mean one last case until both of them come out of retirement in Lethal Weapon 6!
