Demons, in the shape of winged serpents, disturb Max, but nothing real or imagined will get in the way of his mission. Complicating things is Max Payne's guru B.B. (Beau Bridges), an ex-cop who is involved with security for a large pharmaceutical company, which may hold the key to the mystery.

MAX PAYNE, PREMIERE
Max Payne is a 2008 action film based on the 2001 video game of the same name. The film was directed by John Moore and stars Mark Wahlberg in the title role. The film was released on October 16, 2008 in Australia, one day prior to the United States release date.
Critical reception
The film has received generally mixed-to-negative reviews. The film currently has an 18% "rotten" rating at Rotten Tomatoes, based on 70 reviews, and a consensus opinion that "While it boasts some stylish action, Max Payne suffers severely from an illogical plot and overdirection." Tom Long noted that the film may be the worst of the year.Louise Keller said "the most striking element is the production design..."Bruce Paterson wrote for the Australian Film Critics Association and Cinephilia that "Mark Wahlberg is terrific in hard-bitten roles", but in a reference to the Valkyries concluded "it could have done...

Movie Review: Max Payne

Category: Movies    Tags: Max Payne, Weekend Box Office

MAX PAYNE, PREMIERE2001 saw the release of the third person shooter Max Payne. It was well-received by gamers and critics alike. It combined cinematic influences with everyone's desire to shoot things. With its popularity, it was only a matter of time before it was adapted to the big screen. Although I have never played the game, it is easy to see its potential for cinematic fun. It has elements of old noir and hard boiled detective films, John Woo influenced game play and a look that is simultaneously old and new school. Unfortunately, as it turns out, Hollywood seemed to be more content to turn out a workmanlike product that trades on its popularity for a quick buck with a visual style that attempts to be arty while remaining true to the game while completely ignoring the story potential in favor of a script that is more concerned with getting to the...

Christopher Buckley Endorses Obama

Category: Stars    Tags: Christopher Buckley, National Review, Obama

Fox Searchlights Premieres Would the late William F Buckley Jr. be rolling over in his grave at the news of his son Christopher Buckley endorsing Barak Obama? I don't think so, but Christopher Buckley has resigned from the conservative magazine, National Review, that his father founded.

In a Huffington Post article by Jason Linkins, the young Buckley is quoted as saying this about the state of the conservative movement;

"I no longer have any clear idea what, exactly, the modern conservative movement stands for. Eight years of "conservative" government has brought us a doubled national debt, ruinous expansion of entitlement programs, bridges to nowhere, poster boy Jack Abramoff and an ill-premised, ill-waged war conducted by politicians of breathtaking arrogance."

What I find interesting about this is the fact that he left the magazine over his endorsement of Obama, and that they were quick to accept his resignation. It reminds me...

Why Christopher Buckley And His Defenders Are Wrong

Category: Stars    Tags: Christopher Buckley, National Review, Obama

Capitol File Magazine Screening Of Christopher Buckley, son of William F. Buckley Jr. and noted author and essayist, has as perhaps many of you know endorsed Barack Obama. He's also left National Review, the magazine his father founded. He has many conservative critics, of course; and some defenders, including the columnist Kathleen Parker in today's Washington Post.

I've agreed with Ms. Parker a lot in the past; but not on this. Here, she's dead wrong.
She's wrong, for example, to suggest that there was a "tsunami" of anger and opposition to Buckley among the NR community, and wrong to suggest in any way that Buckley was run out of NR in a fit of pique by the magazine's current stewards, as Rich Lowry has clearly stated in The Corner.

But here's the larger point. Did you notice Ms. Parker's defense of Christopher Buckley's argument as to WHY a...
