Free Pacman Jones! Or At Least Let Him Back On The Football Field

Category: Sports    Tags: NFL Football, Dallas Cowboys, Pacman, Adam Jones

Cardianls vs. CowboysAs UT's Longhorn football team approached their spectacular game with Oklahoma last week and a tough stretch in their schedule over the next few games, including tonight hosting #11 Missouri, I've found myself checking in more frequently at the venerable sports cable network ESPN and couldn't help but notice they're producing a flood of stories aggressively criticizing troubled Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, who was suspended this week by the league after an argument with a bodyguard at a hotel.

ESPN and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell seem determined to turn Pacman Jones into the next Michael Vick - a sacrificial lamb suitable for crucifixion in the media to show the league doesn't tolerate bad guys. Maybe Jones deserves it for his past transgressions, which I've never closely followed before he came to Dallas, but not for the incident that most recently hounded him out of the league.

Adam "Pacman" Jones has been cleared to play for the Dallas Cowboys this season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

The overrated cornerback/kick returner was suspended all last season, when he was with the Tennessee Titans, because of an accumulation of arrests and legal problems.

In April Jones was traded to the Cowboys, where he was allowed to precipitate in training camp and preseason.

Goodell's reinstatement decision came Thursday, hours before Dallas' final preseason game.

"It feels good man, you know, to get a second chance and I just have to take advantage of it," Jones told The Dallas Morning News. "First and foremost, I don't want to let myself down, definitely my little girl down. I'm thankful for [Cowboys owner] Jerry [Jones], the fans in Dallas and my teammates for believing in me. I need to keep doing what I've been doing to get reinstated, staying with myself and my teammates and staying away from those knuckleheads and just stay focused."

Only time will tell if Dallas' gamble will pay dividends. I bet on bust. Although athletically gifted, Jones seems unwilling to learn technique and game plans, which are important when playing with the best of the best. I'm sure Dallas fans hope he proves me wrong.

Pacman Jones Is Not Going Anywhere Soon

Pacman Jones mentioned to Hall of Famer, Michael Irvin, on a radio interview that he was hoping to continue his playing days in the eew Dallas Stadium.

Some information has leaked that the trade negotiations have come to a halt. The Tennessee Titans offered to give up Pacman Jones for a 4th round pick in this coming draft along with another selection in next year's draft.

Dallas believes this offer is not worth the trouble of a criminal and they are right considering that they are the only team shopping for him. Titans might as well see things as a lose for them and part ways with Pacman Jones any way they can, asking for two picks is a bit pricey for someone that has been suspended and still is suspended for over a year.

Dallas Cowboy Trifecta

How about this for rumors? The Dallas Cowboys acquire Pacman Jones in a trade with the Titians. Then they move on to Cincinnati and acquire disgruntled Chad Johnson, who will take over for Terrell Owens after one season of playing together. Finally, they trade up with the Miami Dolphins and draft Darren McFadden.

Could this really happen? Not likely, but never say never when Jerry Jones is in pursuit of a Super Bowl.

The Jones deal is close to getting done and McFadden is a possibility after proving his worth as an all-around player during his pro day. But Johnson would be the most unlikely to land in Dallas. First, I don't know if Cincinnati will part ways with the star. Secondly, although he would be a great replacement for TO, it might be hard from both egos to play at the same time...especially when Owens' days are coming to an end.

If this trifecta would happen, teams better hit the defensive chalk board extra hard.

Make It Rain

Pacman Jones and the Dallas Cowboys would have been a perfect fit in the mid 90's. As far as today is concerned, I am not so sure. With a cupcake for a coach and an ego maniac for a owner, having Pacman join your team at this point in time could be a terrible mistake.

Recently reports have Jones' attorney, Manubir Arora, trying to facilitate his client's possible return to the league. If the Titians do not want him upon his return, Pacman is hoping for a trade to the Dallas Cowboys. Oh, America's team.

Jerry Jones, don't be the team that sells out and goes after Pacman Jones. Let the NFL play on, while Mr. Jones continues to make it rain in the titty bar. Make it rain, Pacman, make it rain.
