Ben Stiller's latest movie, Tropic Thunder, has brought out U.S. disability advocates to protest there use of the word "retard" in this years summer blockbuster comedy.
The film, which also stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. playing a white man who has undergone surgery to play a black man for a film role, has been slammed by 22 disability groups in the U.S.
Demonstrators showed their distaste for the movie by picketing the Mann Village Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday night insisting the film "humiliates people with intellectual disabilities".
Stiller, Black and Downey Jr. walked the red carpet amid shouts from angry protesters who were waving placards urging cinema goers to boycott the movie.
Despite the negative reactions to the picture, studio bosses have denied it is offensive towards people who suffer from mental disabilities.
But Downey Jr. took time out on the red carpet to defend the film, telling reporters he was glad people had decided to picket the premiere as it was their right as free citizens.
He says "That's the great thing, you know, if I want to protest something because it offends me that's my right as an American and it's also any artist's right to say and do whatever they want to do."
Well said Downey...well said.
I will be at the theater Friday night. And I can't wait!!!!
Heath Ledger's whole family flew in from Australia this past weekend to attend the premiere of their son's role as the Joker. They showed alot of pride at the event about their son being able to play as the Joker.
"The Dark Knight is everything we hoped it would be and more," Ledger's father, Kim, said Tuesday in a statement on behalf of Ledger's immediate family. "Heath loved the experience of creating this character and working on the film. We are so proud of our boy." -People
Anyone else excited to see the midnight showing of the New Batman: The Dark Knight this coming Thursday?
Thank God this is a April fools joke, because this is the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen. This indie movie is a disgrace to Nintendo and anybody who has ever played The Legend of Zelda franchise. Please don't mess this up Hollywood or ign.com
Take a look at this crap if you dare. It is 2 minutes and 47 seconds that I will never get back.
