Thousands Pay Respects To Cherepanov

Family, friends, teammates and thousands of fans paid their last respects Wednesday to Alexei Cherepanov, the 19-year-old rising hockey star who died after suffering heart problems during a game outside Moscow.
The cause of his death was still under investigation, federal investigators said Wednesday. A first-round draft pick for the New York Rangers, Cherepanov collapsed on the bench during a game Monday outside Moscow.
State television showed mourners in his Siberian hometown lining up on a red carpet placed on the ice in the arena of Cherepanov's team, Avangard Omsk, to lay flowers at his coffin.
Crowds of mourners followed as pallbearers carried the coffin, draped with white cloth, from the arena to Omsk's Staro-Severnoye Cemetery, where Cherepanov was buried.
Some onlookers were so overcome with grief they had to be restrained.

Hockey Mourns Cherepanov
I am sadden to spread word that New York Rangers 2007 draft pick, 19 year old Alexei Cherepanov, passed away during a game with Avangard Omsk of the KHL, in Moscow earlier today.
“We are extremely saddened by the tragic passing of Alexei," said Glenn Sather, Rangers general manager. "On behalf of the New York Rangers organization, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family. Alexei was an intelligent, energetic young man, with tremendous talent and an extremely bright future."
The Rangers had plans to sign Cherepanov to a deal to come to the NHL has soon has he finished out his contract with Omsk, set to expire at the end of this season.

Alexei Cherepanov Died R.I.P :(
Alexei Cherepanov died during a game in his native Russia on Monday night. He was 19. that Cherepanov suffered a heart attack and collapsed on the bench during Avangard Omsk’s game against Vityav Chekhov.
TSN of Canada reported that medical officials attempted to get Cherepanov’s heart beating again. According to the web site, there was no ambulance present at the arena. The report stated that it took between “15 and 20 minutes” to transport Cherepanov from the arena to the hospital.
Rangers general manager Glen Sather addressed the tragedy in a statement released by the team.

Alexei Cherepanov Passes Away
The 19-year-old Russian forward Alexei Cherepanov who was the New York Rangers 1st Round pick in 2007 has passed away today after collapsing during the Avangard Omsk game today.
Omsk head coach, Wayne Fleming said Cherepanov collapsed on the bench during the third period of the game and did not see anything that happened on the ice that may have contributed to it.
The Alex Ovetjkin Blog has a comment from sportsbox.ru story that says Jaromir Jagr's elbow struck Cherepanov.
According to comments on SportBox.ru it was Jagr's elbow. Jarg is Cherepanov's teammate. Apparently Jarg didn't see him. Afterwards Jagr was shouting "Wake up Alexei" and was in tears.The biggest concern is was there a working defibrillator in the arena.

The King Of Voice Over Dies
Voice over legend Don LaFontaine has died after suffering from a collapsed lung at age 68.
During his lengthy career, LaFontaine lent his booming vocal chords to more than 5,000 movie trailers and 300,000 radio and TV commercials, including advertisements for corporate giants such as McDonalds, Coca-Cola and Budweiser.
LaFontaine's agent, Vanessa Gilbert, tells ETonline.com that he died following complications from pneumothorax. This is when air or gas gets into the pleural cavity, after a lung collapse.
However, the official cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
The words, "In a world where...", will never quite sound the same again.
